How much is a Discord username worth?
Since Discord moved to unique usernames, a short handle like kiro or x.o belongs to exactly one person. That made some names collectible. Here is what drives their price, what people ask for them and why you are better off catching a free one yourself.
The short answer
An ordinary Discord username has no market value. Short names, clean words and names with no digits or symbols are a different story: listings start around $50 and short or OG names are offered for hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Why Discord names got a price
From 2015 Discord names came with a four-digit tag, like Nova#0001, so thousands of people could be "Nova". Discord replaced that system with unique usernames: no tag, lowercase only, one account per name.
Unique means scarce. There is only one nova now, and whoever holds it keeps it until they change it or their account is deleted.
What makes a name valuable
Length
Discord usernames have 2 to 32 characters. The shortest are the rarest:
| Length | Letters only | With digits, _ and . |
|---|---|---|
| 2 characters | 676 | about 1,400 |
| 3 characters | 17,576 | about 54,800 |
| 4 characters | 456,976 | about 2.08 million |
2 and 3 letter names were among the first to go when the new system opened, and they come back only when their owners let them go.
Letters only
kiro is worth more than k1ro, ki_ro or ki.ro. A period or underscore inside a name widens the choice a lot, which also makes such names cheaper.
A real word
Dictionary words, first names and brand-like names (wolf, luna, pixel) are valued above random letters. A short word in English is valued most, but short words in other languages are popular too.
Clean look
Names without repeated symbols, without numbers at the end and without "official"-looking parts are easier to use and easier to remember.
What names are listed for
Public guides and listings give a rough picture: less popular names start at about $50 to $100, and short or OG names are listed for hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Is your name valuable?
A quick checklist. The more answers are yes, the more people would want your name:
- Is it 2, 3 or 4 characters long?
- Is it letters only, with no digits, period or underscore?
- Is it a real word, a first name or something that sounds like a brand?
- Can you say it out loud and spell it without explaining?
- Is it free of anything that looks like impersonation of a person, a company or Discord?
If you answered no to the first two, the name is worth what it is worth to you, and that is fine. If you answered yes to most of them, protect your account: turn on two-factor authentication and ignore anyone who asks for your token "to check the value".
Getting a good name without buying
Names on Discord do come back. When an account is deleted, it stays in a "pending deletion" state for 15 days and is then removed. Discord also deletes accounts that have been inactive for 2 years or more. And people change usernames all the time: Discord allows up to 2 changes a week. Each of those frees a name that someone can claim for free, in their own settings.
The hard part is noticing the moment. That is what Clmify does: it scans whole sets of names on our servers, by length, by pattern like CVCV, by word lists or from your own list, and alerts you when a name on your watchlist frees up. You claim it yourself in Discord; we never ask for your token. Plans start with a free one; compare them on the pricing page, or see why catching a name costs less than buying one.
