How to change your Roblox username and what it costs
You can change your Roblox username in account settings. It takes a minute and costs 1,000 Robux. Before you pay, it is worth knowing what happens to your old name and why a change of capital letters costs just as much.

A username change costs 1,000 Robux each time. Roblox does not give discounts for small changes: switching kiro to Kiro is a full change at full price. For scale, the Roblox subscription that gives 1,000 Robux every month costs $12.99. Robux are also sold in one-time packs; their prices differ by platform and country.
Before you pay
- Check the rules. 3 to 20 characters, English letters, digits and at most one underscore, which cannot be first or last. You can test any name on our Roblox page for free.
- Check that it is free. Roblox tells you whether the name is taken in the change window, before the Buy button charges you.
- Know your password. Roblox asks for your current password to confirm the change.
- Have 1,000 Robux on the account. The price is taken from your Robux balance.
On PC or in a browser
Open Settings
Log in at roblox.com and click the gear icon in the top right corner of the site, then choose Settings.
Go to Account Info
Select the Account Info tab. Your display name and username are listed at the top.
Press the pencil next to Username
Roblox calls it the Change Username button. A window opens where you type the new name.
Enter the name and your password, then Buy
Type the new username, enter your current Roblox password and press Buy. From now on you sign in with the new username and the same password.
On a phone or tablet
In the Roblox app on iPhone, iPad or Android, tap the three dots icon (More), then Settings, then Account Info. Tap the pencil next to your username, type the new name, enter your password and tap Buy. The steps and the price are the same as on PC.
On a phone, the Robux you buy in the app store are added to the same account, so you can pay for the change right there.
On Xbox or PlayStation
The Roblox help center describes the change only for the browser and the mobile apps. If you play on Xbox or PlayStation and do not see the option in the console app, sign in to the same account at roblox.com or in the mobile app and change it there. The new name then shows everywhere you play, consoles included.
Can you do it for free?
No. There is no official way to change a username without Robux, and pages that promise a "free name change" or "free Robux" are scams that try to get your password.
What you can change for free is your display name: the name shown above your avatar and in chat. It costs nothing, can be changed once every 7 days and does not have to be unique. Never give your password to get a free change
Roblox never asks for your password outside its own site and apps. Anyone who offers a free username change in exchange for your login wants your account.
What happens to your old name
This part surprises many players. According to the Roblox help center:
- Your old usernames stay with your account. They are listed in your settings and on your profile, and other players can find them through people search.
- No one else can take them. Roblox does not let anyone use a name that belongs to another account, and your past names count as yours.
- You can go back. Changing back to a previous username follows the same steps and costs the same Robux.
- Your join date stays. The original account creation date carries over to the new name.
- You cannot swap names with an alt. Moving a name between two of your own accounts is not allowed.
If you use your right to be forgotten, your past usernames are retired permanently and nobody can use them again.
