How to find available Roblox usernames that are not taken
Search for "available Roblox usernames" and you will find long lists of names someone says are free. By the time you read them, most are taken. Here is how to find a name nobody has, with honest odds for each kind of name.
Why lists of free names do not work
A public list of free names is read by thousands of people. The good names on it get registered in the first hours, and the list stays online for years.
The names that are free for you are the ones nobody has thought of yet. You find them by generating your own candidates and checking them.
Realistic odds by type
| Kind of name | Example | Odds of finding one free |
|---|---|---|
| 3 letters | Zyx | practically none |
| 4 letters, a real word | Wolf | practically none |
| 4 letters, pronounceable | Rimo | very low |
| 4 characters with a digit or underscore | Ri_m, K1ro | low, needs many checks |
| 5 letters, pronounceable | Tavik | real, with a long list |
| A word plus a digit or underscore | Wolf_9 | good |
| Two short words | IceFox | good |
For why the short ones are gone, see rare Roblox usernames: OG, 3L and 4L.
Where good candidates come from
- Patterns. Consonant, vowel, consonant, vowel, consonant (
Tavik,Lomer) sounds like a name and has millions of combinations. - Words from other languages. Roblox only allows English letters, but many words in other languages use them:
Sol,Luz,Nebel,Lune,Kosmo. Leave out the accents. - Short word pairs.
IceFox,SkyMint,NovaRay. Two short words are often free even when each word is taken. - One underscore in the middle.
Lu_na,Kai_x. It keeps a name short and readable. - One digit with meaning.
Wolf7reads much better thanWolf20481. - Your own interests. Names linked to your favourite game, sport or hobby are less likely to be on someone's list.
Before you collect candidates, make sure they fit the Roblox username rules: 3 to 20 characters, letters, digits and one underscore that is not first or last.
A method that works
Write 50 to 200 candidates
One name is a wish; a hundred names is a plan. Mix the ideas above, and put your favourites at the top.
Remove names that break the rules
Paste each one into the rules check on our Roblox page. It flags names that are too short, too long, have two underscores or forbidden characters.
Check availability in Roblox
When you sign up or open the username change window, Roblox tells you whether the name is already in use. Go down your list until you get a name that is accepted. Do not press Buy until you see the name is available.
Claim it right away
A good free name will not wait. A new account gets it at sign-up; for an existing account a change costs 1,000 Robux, as described in how to change your Roblox username.
Keep the rest of the list
Save the names that were taken. You will want them for an alt, a group or a game later, and checking a ready list is much faster than starting again.
Checking many names at once
Checking a long list by hand works, but it is slow. Clmify scans whole sets of Roblox names on our servers: by length, by pattern like CVCV, by word lists or from your own list, and alerts you the second a name you watch frees up. It needs no access to your Roblox account. Start on the Roblox page and see what a subscription costs compared with buying a name.
Questions
Are there still OG Roblox usernames that are not taken?
Very few, and they do not stay free long. "OG" usually means a name from the early years or a very short one, and those were registered long ago. A pronounceable 5 letter name or a word with an underscore is a far better use of your time.
Can I check if a Roblox username is taken without an account?
Yes. The sign-up form tells you whether a name is already in use before you create the account. Our Roblox page checks the format, so you only try names that can exist.
Is a name with an underscore a bad choice?
No. Lu_na is short, readable and unique to you. It is worth less on the market, but you are choosing a name to use, not to sell.
