Discord username rules
Discord accepts a username only if it fits a few simple rules. Clmify checks them before every scan, so you never spend checks on names that cannot exist.
In short
2 to 32
characters in total
a-z 0-9 _ .
lowercase letters, digits, underscore and period
. .
two periods in a row are not allowed
What is allowed
- From 2 to 32 characters.
- Latin letters from a to z. Capital letters turn into lowercase, so Nova and nova are the same name.
- Digits from 0 to 9.
- Underscore
_and period..
What is not allowed
- Two periods in a row, like
a..b. - Spaces, hyphens and other symbols.
- Letters outside a to z: Cyrillic, letters with accents, emoji.
Discord can still refuse a name
Some names fit every rule above, and Discord still does not give them out. Our check then shows the name as taken or as unclear. Unclear answers are free.
Examples
- novaletters only
- k.oa period inside
- x_7underscore and digit
- qtoo short
- a..btwo periods in a row
- no vaa space
Tips for short names
- Most names of 2 or 3 characters are taken. A pattern scan like
CVCV(consonant, vowel, consonant, vowel) finds pronounceable four-letter names that are easier to get. - A period or an underscore inside a word, like
k.oorx_7, widens the choice a lot. - Put names you really want on the watchlist: we will tell you the moment one of them frees up.
